Safe barriers save lives.
Regularly check your pool.
All gates and doors to your pool/spa must be self closing and the latches work well
There are no gaps more than 100mm including under the fence and gate
There are no climbable objects such as BBQ’s, furniture, potplants, plants/shrubs close to the outside of the barrier or within reach just inside the barrier
Never prop gates open
Arrange me to inspect your pool/spa every 4 years
Climbable fence rails near pool barriers are common, very unsafe and fail the compliance test.
CHECKLISTS
The Building and Plumbing Commission (formerly the Victorian Building Authority) has checklists for pool owners to check their own barrier safety pre-inspection.
These self-assessment checklists are intended to help pool and spa owners maintain the safety of pools and spas. The checklists are not exhaustive but are designed as guidance to determine if the pool/spa barriers are in good working order and adequately restrict access by young children. My comprehensive inspection will determine if your pool or spa complies with the relevant Standards.
